Union of Bulgarian Journalists offers the publishers of the very new Bulgarian Satiric newspaper "Pras-Press" to disseminate it in the "Sofia press” Agency Gallery bookstore.
The news was announced by Mrs. Snezhana Todorova – President of the UBJ Managing Board and Chairwoman of "Sofia Press Agency”, during a makeshift meeting with the authors and editorial Board of the issue. They were distributing by themselves the extraordinary copies of the newspaper in the center of Sofia.
UBJ joins the host of questions, asked by the publishers of the Bulgarian “Charlie Ebdo” - Ivan Bakalov, Chavdar Nikolov, Hristo Komarnitski and Chavdar Georgiev, which are: "Who stole the newsletter with the modest cartoons? Who turned "Pras- press" in the most “dangerous issue” on the press- market? Who is angry with the cartoons? Who is frightened by "Pras- press"?
The satirical issue appeared on the press market a few days ago – on March thr 1, with 10 000 copies. But the public could not find or buy it. The publishers of the newspaper announced their decision to refer the case to the General Prosecutor and to the Commission on Protection of the Competition, as well as to inform all institutions and organizations abroad, which are monitoring the freedom of the speech.
The Union of Bulgarian Journalists will approach the European and International Federation of Journalists for the rough treatment and the violation of the journalists' rights and freedom of expression in our country.
The Union of Bulgarian Journalists is launching a communication campaign "No to the fake news". A special column, named "Wall of the Shame" will be created on the UBJ website - http://www.sbj-bg.eu . There would be posted and published different examples of unfair and misleading information, produced and disseminated by the Bulgarian media. The readers, listeners and TV-audience would have the opportunity to approach the UBJ Ethics Commission.
The Commission will make a review of all alert notifications and will quote them on the UBJ website, as negative examples for violation of the ethical and professional standards of journalism.
